Preparation for Peer Catch-ups

Good Peer Catch-ups benefit from good preparation.

As this is a two-way model, it is usually worthwhile making some time to reflect on your working relationship with your peer and the level of contribution you see them giving to their roles.

Do great prep by:

Thinking about your own engagement with your role/s using these three factors:

  • Challenge: Is there a sufficient (but not unattainable) challenge to achieve the tasks of your role/s?
  • Stimulation: Are you learning something new?
  • Reward: Do you get feedback to show you are making progress? Is your financial reward sufficient for this work?

If you don’t have a good balance of all three of the above, it may mean you are feeling burnt (too great a challenge or lack reward); bored (lack stimulation); or blunt (lack challenge or may be losing skills). If one (or both) or you are not engaged, the intention is for the two peers to discuss some strategies to address it.

Think about your working relationship. Do you work well together?  Do you talk about the hard issues face to face? Do you trust each other? What might be the one thing the other person could do to improve your working relationship? Sometimes, this can be as a simple as turning up to meetings on time or acknowledging emails.

Look at your roles in the platform and think about how you would rate your contribution to those roles. Look at the other person’s roles and think about how you would rate their contribution to them. Try to identify actions both of you could take to improve each other’s contribution.

This work can also be supported or enhanced by using a DiSC Comparison report to understand both parties better.
