Resilient Business Goals help the leadership team work towards the vision of the organisation.

They are usually set for three to five years, depending on the industry, and, importantly, they are designed to consider the whole system. Just like the Vision, Resilient Business Goals support communication and motivation across the business. Setting clear goals across the four zones of Economic Engine, Organisation Design, Healthy Culture and Financial Security helps focus energy, reduce confusion and support decision making.

Some examples of Resilient Business Goals are:

Economic Engine

  • We are successfully delivering our products in WA and the Eastern States
  • Our revenue is in excess of $15 million
  • We have a healthy net profit before tax of 30%

Organisation Design

  • We design our business to leverage without an exponential increase in employee numbers.

Healthy Culture

  • We develop leaders from within the organisation, not external
  • We provide a supportive and engaging place for people to work; our Career Valuation Tool score is above 80%

Financial Security/Ownership

  • The people who own our business are leaders in the business.

ADAPT’s framework allows an organisation to respond and adapt while keeping everyone aligned and focused. The flock of birds is a good metaphor. Aligned and focused moving in the same direction but able to adapt and pivot smoothly if/when necessary.

Goals and objectives are not blindfolds and all leadership teams need to understand the importance of continually listening and adapting their strategy to changing conditions – internally or externally. COVID-19 is a good example of something happening externally that no-one could have predicted but required all businesses to adjust their focus.
